Things You Should Not Buy Before You Move

Having your own place is exciting, there is no doubt about it. You finally feel free to do with it as you please, without worrying that you may have to look for another one in a short while. This gives you the option to adjust the decorations as you see fit, to fill it with whatever furniture you like and pretty much do whatever you please.

That being said, you can easily get swept up by the excitement and in that state you can make quite a lot of impulse purchases. Then you will justify them, because you know, they will be for that new home of yours. Well, not so fast.

There are a few things that you should not buy before you move to your place and get the feel for it. That does not mean that you should not have ANYTHING to fill those plastic moving boxes of yours, but at least keep yourself from having even more things to move. Let’s see what the major things are that you should avoid buying!

Stating The Obvious – Furniture

Of course, this will seem rather the no-brainer for most of you, but sadly, it is exactly the people who know they should not buy furniture, who end up buying it anyway. In their mind they are the only exception to the rule, because they have all the dimensions, meaning they can make a rational, calculated decision. Newsflash – they cannot.

Do you know what one of the most important things about proper home furnishing is? Negative space! This is the idea that you should leave enough of empty space around your items in order for your home to feel roomier and not like a cage. Sadly though, before you get the hang around your new place, you really cannot tell how much white space it needs. So ease it up with the furniture.

The Artistic Touches

No one wants to live in a home that is overly bland. Whether you opt for buying a few succulents to place at key points around your place, or you prefer looking at art on the walls, you should still not rush out to buy these before the actual move.

Again, this goes hand in hand with buying furniture. You just have to know your place a bit before you commit to a decorative decision. Don’t crowd your walls with paintings, neither put a vase in the corner of the room just because you have it. Think these things through and only then make the purchase if you think it is going to be a fit.

Making Your Home Smart… Prematurely

Smart homes are all the rage right now with different devices that can make your house… brainier. But you cannot really make a proper decision about them until after you’ve moved in. Why? Well, I doubt you know all the cable routing specificities of the space, or how much signal interference there is going to be. These things need to be looked up, before you commit to the rather pricy smart devices.
