How Hard Can It Be: Storage Facilities

If you are living in a big city you have probably wondered about getting a storage facility either for the long term, or as a temporary solution for when you are moving. Whatever the case is there are simply some things you have to know when you opt for such a solution. You will be surprised at how many people actually fail to use their storage space to its fullest potential. So let’s dive right in!

Think About The Boxes

When you store things in a facility, you shouldn’t just put them there randomly. Organizing them in boxes is an absolute necessity, but you already know that, don’t you? What you don’t know, however, is that the quality of boxes is actually quite important. Namely, you should get boxes that are sturdy enough for stacking one on top of the other. See, using up the vertical space in your storage facility is a great way to use that space as efficiently as possible. But you can’t do that with cardboard boxes that tend to get squished once you stack them one on top of the other.

What is the solution then? You can simply rent plastic boxes to get the job done, if it is temporary, or purchase them if you are going to use a storage facility as a longer term solution. Plastic boxes are great for stacking and they guarantee you that your items will be kept safe. Just keep in mind that there is a simple rule when it comes to stacking – the lightest things should go on top, the heaviest – on the bottom. That way you run the least amount of risk of something going wrong. Plus you will have an easier time when you are unstacking the boxes later.

Don’t Store Items You May Soon Need

Strangely enough, a lot of people store away things they may actually need. We know that all that free space may be tempting to use it all up, but don’t just put things there for the sake of it. If you have important items in your storage facility, which you are expecting to be using soon, well, take them out of there (or don’t put them there in the first place).

This also goes for things like books you’d want to read, magazines you’d like to go through again and similar items.

Disassemble Furniture

If you are going to store furniture that can be easily disassembled, then do the work! This will save you tons of space and it may actually work to preserve the quality of the furniture. Otherwise you may end up stacking things on top of it, and believe it or not, most new pieces of furniture are not designed to withstand a lot of weight on them.

Conclusion

Storage facilities are awesome when you feel pressured to move outside of a strict schedule or when you simply want to have more room at home. But use them correctly if you want to make the most out of them!
