We know that moving can be challenging. Not only do you have to consider all the trouble of scheduling things around, but you also have to deal with the change itself. Not to mention that the whole process may be quite bothersome with looking for a new place and fitting everything into a proper timetable.
That being said, you can make the entire move much easier if you follow best practices. But do you know what these are? Today we are going to share some of our knowledge and experience to help you with planning your next move. Let’s go!
Tip #1: There Is Time For Everything… If You Plan For It
There is a psychological phenomenon that people usually underestimate the amount of time it would take them to complete a task. As human beings we are naturally optimistic about how much effort is needed and how much time something will take.
Sadly, most of the time we fail in our prediction. This is why a good rule of thumb is to multiply the time you think will be necessary by 3. That way you will have given yourself enough time to get everything done, and if you somehow finish earlier – great, free time!
Tip #2: Better In Writing
The human brain is capable of a great many things, but perfect memory is not one of them. That is why instead of trying to recall everything that needs to be packed, or the perfect plan, routine or practice, just write things down.
It is much easier to go through a checklist when packing, then figuring out if you have forgotten something later on. Additionally, all the tips and advice in the world wouldn’t help you if you keep forgetting them. Having them handy is a must!
Tip #3: Boxes and Labeling
If you are not familiar with the concept of labeling it is pretty simple. You get a piece of paper and write down everything that you put inside the box, on which you’d then stick the list. That way you can easily see what you have inside without the need to go through every box later on.
Additionally, you may color-code the boxes to the rooms they are meant for. That way if you hire movers, you may save some time and thus some money, because everything will be handled a bit faster. Not to mention that you will have an easier time ordering things around when it comes to it.
Now, when we are talking about boxes, we also have to mention that there are these plastic packing boxes, which are designed specifically for moving. What makes them special? Firstly, they are way sturdier than a regular cardboard box, and that makes them perfect for protecting your items. Secondly, they are uniform and much more easily stackable, so a DIY move will be also easier to handle. Thirdly, you can rent them instead of buying them, so you won’t have to figure out where to store them later on.
